Chandra Lal Pandey, Senior Research Fellow

Chandra Lal Pandey, PhD is a Senior Research Fellow at Southasia Institute for Advanced Studies. He is an Associate Professor at the Department of Development Studies, School of Arts, Kathmandu University and an Adjunct Professor of Chandigarh University, India. He earned his PhD and Post Doctorate in Political Science and Public Policy primarily focusing on climate change governance from the University of Waikato, New Zealand. He has diverse international working experiences of more than two decades in research and teaching which provides him a wide knowledge base and flexible perspectives. He has an extensive research and teaching experiences in the domains of public policy, urban studies, community development, climate change adaptation, flood and disaster management and sustainable development. He has led a number of research projects focusing on the crosscutting themes of inclusive and integrated urban governance/development/planning, transboundary water; climate adaptive flood and disaster resilient communities; capacity building of federal, provincial and local government institutions, urban water security, and sustainable urban development.

He co-edited and authored a number of books including the Environmental Security in the Asia-Pacific and Why REDD will Fail.  He has published a large number of research articles in the high impact factor, leading international peer-reviewed journals. He supervises Masters, MPhil and PhD scholars in the areas of his expertise and also serves as a reviewer and an editor for a number of top-notch international peer-reviewed journals. He has also served as the national team leader for many projects funded by international agencies, UN agencies and USAID. His most recent peer-reviewed publications include: Challenges and Prospects of Flood Early Warning Systems: A Study of Narayani Basin (2023), Transboundary Flood Resilience: Insights from Narayani and Mahakali Basins (2023) and Capturing the Role of Civil Society for Urban Sustainability in Nepal (2023).
