Dr. Bhattarai is a member of the Board of Directors at SIAS. He has his Ph.D. in political science from Nepal Sanskrit University. He began his career as a public interest lawyer as well as an anti-corruption activist and led various civil society organizations. Additionally, as a consultant, Dr. Bhattarai served in various projects for UN agencies, INGOs, ministries, and government agencies of Nepal, World Bank, Asian Development Bank, the British Council, Nepal. Currently, he serves as a law, policy, and governance specialist –freelance, and is involved in various institutions and projects. His areas of expertise are: environmental law and policy, climate change, biodiversity conservation, counter corruption, social accountability and good governance, human rights, social and environmental justice, democracy, local governance and development. Moreover, Dr. Bhattarai has published (authored/edited) several books and research articles, and drafted various laws, policies and institutional instruments.
