NEXUS Gains: Realizing Multiple Benefits across Water, Energy, Food and Ecosystems (Forest and Biodiversity): Energy sector specific workshop

Southasia Institute of Advanced Studies (SIAS) organized a workshop on “NEXUS Gains: Realizing Multiple Benefits Across Water, Energy, Food and Ecosystems (Forest and Biodiversity) with a focus on Energy Sector on 27 November 2022 at Indreni Foodland, Baneshwor.

The participants were development practitioners, researchers, investors and government officials who shared their insights on the identification of the multi-stakeholders working on energy sector by SIAS.

The workshop started with the welcome and introduction session by Dr. Anushiya Shrestha, Research Director, SIAS who also shared the workshop’s objective. Mr. Dharma Raj Bagale, Research Felllow, SIAS presented on “NEXUS Gains: Realizing Multiple Benefits Across Water, Energy, Food and Ecosystems (Forest and Biodiversity): Energy specific session. The session was then moderated by Kamal Devkota, Researcher, SIAS for the feedback on the preliminary insights on the energy sector actors/institutions and multi-stakeholder platforms and their roles and responsibilities in the federal context.

The first round of discussion consolidated with an enriched list of added institutions, suggestions to list/analyse the actors’ institutional role for a good contribution and proposal for categorizing institution at policy level, implementation level and regulatory level as well as SWOT analysis to help in visualizing it as a live document.

The next session focused on the identification of opportunities/ challenges in the multi-sectoral approach and how a collaborative mechanism can be developed for the multi-stakeholders to come together realizing the multiple benefits. There were discussions on the status and gaps around policy and practice in Gender Equity and Social Inclusion (GESI).

The sessions overall reflected on the need of collaboration between state and non-state actors, and change in policy narratives. It also prioritised the need of sectoral and multi sectoral policy review for the identification of the state, non-sate actors.

The feedbacks collected will be incorporated in the report prepared by SIAS.
