Southasia Institute of Advanced Studies (SIAS) and NIMS College jointly organized Synopsis Focused Reflection Workshop as part of the Advanced Scientific Writing Workshop July 9, 2023, at NIMS College, Lalitpur.
The workshop was structured into three sessions: welcome and group division, mentor’s reflections and observations, and a plenary session. In the first session, participants (mentors and mentees) were divided into five different groups based on the similarities of their research themes and ideas of their papers. The group division was primarily done to foster an interactive environment for peer learning and reflections sharing. During the third session, mentors provided their reflections on the papers shared by the mentees and mentees also had the opportunity to discuss on their research ideas and receive feedbacks and suggestions for synopsis revision.
After the group discussions, Dr. Mani Ram Banjade moderated the plenary session, during which the mentors from each group shared their reflections, insights, and key ideas that emerged from the group discussions. They emphasized the importance of crafting a comprehensive synopsis, as it serves as a strong foundation for paper drafting. Specifically, they highlighted the significance of writing a clear research question, analytical approach, methodology, and key arguments in scientific paper writing. Some mentors also stressed the importance of problematizing the research issue and establishing its connection with a theoretical framework to contribute conceptually to the knowledge production and maintaining the overall quality of the research work.
