Ananda Raj Devkota is a PhD student at the Australian National University, Canberra, Australia.
His PhD research explores the socio-economic and environmental vulnerabilities of rural
communities engaged in high-value cash cropping in the mid-hills of Nepal. His research lies in
the interface of livelihoods, socio-economic and climatic changes and migration in a rural
landscape. He holds a master’s degree in development studies from Kathmandu University and
has significant experience as a development researcher and practitioner in Nepal. Before
pursuing his PhD he was engaged in a private research firm and varied international non-
governmental organisations in Kathmandu. At SIAS, he has been involved since May 2024,
joining a short-term assignment relating to climate finance prospects for developing countries
and barriers to climate finance in reaching the affected communities.
