A Study on Participation of Local People in Community Forestry in the Mid-hills of Nepal (DMRS)

Funding Agency

Indiana University, USA

Duration:  2025 –2026

Project Description

The DMRS project, conducted in the Mid-hill districts of Khotang, Kavrepalanchok, and Parbat, investigates the extent and nature of local people’s participation in community forestry. The study focuses on how participatory forest development initiatives influence community livelihoods, decision-making, and inclusiveness, with particular attention to marginalized groups. It analyzes how governance structures, transparency, representation, and benefit distribution shape participation, while also assessing the psychological and material factors that motivate or hinder engagement. By generating insights and sharing them with policymakers, non-governmental organizations, and communities, the project aims to strengthen participatory forestry practices and promote equitable, sustainable, and community-driven forest management in Nepal.
