Rationale:

South Asian and Himalayan nations (hereafter referred to “the region”) share similarities in geography, culture, livelihood practices, evolving economic activities, resource management and rich biodiversity. The region, with its geography ranging from mountainous to ocean landscapes, faces common socio-environmental challenges, including impacts of climate change, disasters, unstable political situation, and increasing vulnerability of the resources such as forests, water, and mountains. Additionally, a significant population in the region lives in poverty, including underprivileged women and marginalized communities. Rapid migration, urbanization, and livelihood diversification are changing the key aspects (e.g., culture and geography) of the region. As a result, the region is undergoing a transition on multiple fronts, but often reinforcing entrenched inequalities. A common forum for knowledge production, discussion, and deliberation can helpaddress these shared challenges and translate the knowledge into policy change, especially in response to evolving socioeconomic and environmental dynamics. Such efforts are essential for achieving a sustainable, resilient, and just future for the region’s inhabitants.

The SouthAsian Journal of Social Science and Public Policy aims to publish contributions from diverse scientific disciplines that bring grounded empirical work unpacking the critical issues, foregrounding thought-provoking articles and generating new and actionable knowledge across disciplines that cover political, economic, social and environmental issues, primarily focusing in the South Asia region.

Aim and Scope: The SouthAsian Journal of Social Science and Public Policy, an internationally peer-reviewed journal (ISSN 2565-5124.), published by the Southasia Institute of Advanced Studies (SIAS), aims to publish high-quality interdisciplinary research to advance knowledge on contemporary socio-economic and ecological/environmental issues across Himalayan and South Asian nations to disseminate and exchange of research findings, ideas, and information globally.
