Southasia Institute of Advanced Studies (SIAS), a Kathmandu based research institute is looking for a highly motivated Researcher with the following key job responsibilities.


Major Responsibilities

  • Execute community-based participatory action research
  • Lead and assist with overseeing and conducting interviews, overseeing transcription and data archiving, and analyzing findings
  • Co-facilitate and document participatory action research at community level
  • Liaise between bio-physical researchers and local stakeholders to develop a ward level participatory risk sensitive land use plan
  • Liaison with ward, municipal and national level disaster management committees to contribute to their disaster related policy and programs.

Duration and duty station

  • It is a Kathmandu based position with occasional field visits to peri-urban towns. The position is initially until March 2022 and possible extensions contingent to funding availability.

Qualifications and skills

  • At least Masters (preferably PhD) degree in social science related disciplines such as Human Geography, Anthropology, Development Studies, Gender Studies, Political Science Urban studies and others if relevant
  • At least 5 years of experiences after masters degree in research with proven skills of conducting interviews and ethnographic studies
  • Ability to take initiative and manage multiple projects with minimal supervision, including strong time management skills
  • Strong writing and oral communication skills in English and Nepali
  • Knowledge on Newari language would be an added advantage

Salary

  • Salary will be commensurate with experience and proven track records
