Southasia Institute of Advanced Studies (SIAS) together with NIMS College organized the third seminar “Literature Review in Scientific Writing” of the Advanced Scientific Writing Workshop Series on July 16, 2023. The seminar was organized at NIMS college, Lalitpur. The session was primarily facilitated by Dr. Mani Ram Banjade. During his presentation, he focused on the purpose of literature review and various techniques for the conducting a systematic literature review. He also shed light on how literature review helps to navigate our research works and even helps us to improve our writing skills. His presentation covered various aspects of literature reviews, starting from demonstrating how literature review helps establishing the context of one’s research to discussing different types of literature reviews, taking notes and synthesizing the literature. Dr. Dil Khatri from SIAS also provided additional insights regarding the literature and shared some techniques for making the review effective throughout the session. After the presentation by Dr. Banjade, Dr. Govinda Paudel, researcher at SIAS shared his experiences regarding the challenges we face during literature review and shared some tips to overcome the challenges. He highlighted the significance of critical analysis in literature reviews, emphasizing that literature review should not merely be a collection of existing literature but rather a comprehensive examination of the available work. He also provided guidance on effectively integrating literature review in the introduction, methodology, and discussion sections of scientific writing. Overall, the whole session was very interactive with authors jumping in to share their experiences and discussing their confusions regarding paraphrasing and systematically managing literature review in scientific writing.
