The fourth series of the Advanced Scientific Writing Workshop was jointly organized by Southasia Institute of Advanced Studies (SIAS) and NIMS College on August 6, 2023. Delivered in a virtual format through the Teams platform, the workshop featured Dr. Prativa Sapkota, a distinguished Research Fellow from the University of Melbourne, Australia as the facilitator for this seminar. Dr. Sapkota, through her presentations, shared her invaluable insights and adept strategies in the realm of data analysis and analytical writing. In her first presentation, referring to her academic journey during PhD, Dr. Sapkota mainly talked about the Thematic analysis (TA) being one of the emerging data analysis techniques due to its flexibility and can be used in any kinds of perspectives, especially in a qualitative analytical domain. Henceforth, she argued of TA being more of a methodology rather than a method only. In her second presentation, she delved into the intricacies of analytical writing, specifically focusing on the domains of writing discussion and conclusion. She shared some of the writing tips while also shedding lights on common mistakes that writers usually made. “Writing is never easy, is a daunting and intimidating process for everyone. On top of that, qualitative research is more rigorous. Hence, I believe (Qualitative) Research is a collective wisdom”, shared Dr Sapkota. The presentations were followed by experience sharing by senior researchers who further enriched the discourse with their own perspectives, thereby nurturing a collaborative and enriching learning environment.
