Binod Adhikari, PhD Researcher (SLU, Sweden)

Binod Adhikari is currently pursuing his PhD at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), Sweden. His doctoral research endeavours to examine and build debate concerning the evolving relationship between nature (forests, wildlife) and human populations in the Himalayan landscape. His primary focus is on the intricate dynamics of interactions between farming and wildlife within the context of evolving socio-economic conditions. This PhD research is a part of collaborative research project jointly undertaken by the SIAS and SLU, titled “Wild animals – biodiversity or pest? Creating local dialogues for dealing with farming-wildlife conflicts in rural Himalayan landscapes (Wildpest)”, which is funded by Swedish Research Council. Mr. Adhikari holds an M.Phil. Degree in Development Geography from the Department of Geography from the University of Bergen (Norway). Previously, he completed Master’s Degree in Geography from the Central Department of Geography, Tribhuvan University (Nepal). His broader research interest lies in the changing relationship between nature and society, particularly focusing on evolving farm and forestry practices, as well as problems associated with rural livelihoods. He has been engaged at SIAS for the last three years, working on various research projects related to agriculture, drinking water, urban disaster and forests.
