With Tomorrow’s Cities (TC) project concluding in March 2024, a formal closing program and an ‘Action Planning Workshop for Tomorrow’s Khokana’ was organised at NSET on March 26, 2024. With Deputy Mayor of Lalitpur Metropolitan City, Ms. Manjali Shakya as distinguished chief guest, the participants of the Khokana Visioning Workshop were present at the event, chaired by Mr. Rabindra Maharjan, ward chair of Ward no. 21, Khokana. The ‘Khokana Visioning Booklet’ and book ‘Socialising Tomorrow’s Cities’ were also displayed for the invitees as reference.
The project activities in each work package were briefly presented as the recapitulation of TC activities in Khokana. Dr. Dilli Prasad Poudel, SIAS also briefly presented on the community engagements and future visioning activities in Khokana. The panel discussion was held on possible way forward for the mitigation of hazard impact in Khokana with the panelists, Mr. Surya Narayan Shrestha (NSET), Dr. Dilli Prasad Poudel (SIAS), Prof. Max Hope (WP1 lead-TC), Mrs. Helen Shova Maharjan, ward member, Khokana and Mr. Rabindra Maharjan, ward Chair of Khokana.
The latter half of the session and the discussion was driven by ‘Khokana Visioning Booklet,’ which was published by SIAS compiling community’s aspirations and dreams. Mr. Rabindra Maharjan, in particular, praised the booklet wholeheartedly, recognising its significance and presenting it as a tool for advocating with government officials and politicians. He further shared “With this booklet, we had clearly illustrated our development desires for Khokana. It also facilitates lobbying efforts with both provincial and central governments.”
The ‘Khokana Visioning Booklet’ (both English and Nepali) version and the book ‘Socialising Tomorrow’s Cities’ were displayed for the invitees.
