Discussion Series: Nepali Society During and After the Pandemic

The ever-churning machine that the globalized world today is has been brought to a grinding halt by COVID-19. The pandemic has forced half the population of the world to the confines of their homes as the governments around the world grapple to contain the virus. This lockdown period has been a period of great despair with the number of lives lost around the world, and has also laid threadbare the undisguised reality we live in. Now more than a month in lockdown, we have realized that the medical/public health aspect of the pandemic is only the tip of the iceberg. A crisis of this scale affects each and every aspect of the society, from politics to population, economy to education.

As academicians, researchers and intellectuals, it is imperative that we discuss the profound impact the pandemic is already making in our society. And not only the negative impacts but also the opportunities that come along a crisis as silver linings. Hence, this discussion series is organized with the aim to virtually convene people who have the vision and the voice on the present and potential social repercussions of the pandemic. The discussion are organized weekly (every week Friday, from 6 pm to 7pm NST) among invited participants.  In these hour long conversations, a designated presenter will put forward his view followed by questions/comments from the participants. The summary of the discussion is written in a form of a blog weekly in this space.

If you are not in our mailing list and want to participate, please write to sias-info@sias-southasia.org  for the invitation.
