SIAS co-organised Climate Change Conference, 4-5 Jan 2018

Southasia Institute of Advanced Studies (SIAS) participated and collaborated with Ministry of Population and Environment (MOPE) for a two day climate change management conference organized in Itahari, Sunsari state no 1, Nepal along with organizations like ICIMOD,UNDP,  Care, WWF, Practical Action and LIBIRD.  The theme of conference was Building climate resilience of flood prone area of eastern Terai. This conference was inaugurated by Honorable Minister Mithila Chaudhary.  Nearly 300 participants from Central/federal government and local government bodies including municipalities and other organizations such as academic institutions, NGOs, CBOs and youths, Users Group (CFUG, women’s group), organization working on water, forest, agriculture, transport from Morang, Sunsari, Jhapa and Saptari district participated in the workshop.

 

Altogether 30 papers were presented in the workshop by experts on climate change ranging from diverse climate related topics from basics of climate change to the climate change adaptation technology such as early warning system. On behalf of SIAS, Kaustuv Raj Neupane, researcher, presented paper entitled “Climate Adaptive and Equitable Water Management Practices in Dharan: Exploring innovations to address ‘too much and too little water’ in the Eastern Tarai.” During presentation Mr. Neupane highlighted need of state level interaction to bring all local governments in a common platform.
