On December 27, the Southasia Institute of Advanced Studies (SIAS) hosted an insightful Future Himalayan Research Seminar titled “The Care of Things: Methodological Imbrications”. Sanjaya Khatri of SIAS facilitated the seminar, which began with a brief welcome and introduction of the presenter, Dr. Syed Shoaib Ali, a postdoctoral researcher at SIAS.
Dr. Shoaib gave a stimulating presentation on the concept of care and its methodological implications, sparking an engaging discussion with the participants. Dr. Shoaib highlighted the concept of care and explained the various dimensions/arenas of care. He also explained the relationship between care and the maintenance. The seminar explored the different forms of care, its impact on our understanding of infrastructures and technoscience, and the complex relationship between care and critique. The seminar concluded with an enriching discussion in which both the participants and the presenter emphasized the relevance of the concept of care in research as well as development interventions.
