Southasia Institute of Advanced Studies (SIAS) organized a half-day “Workshop on qualitative data analysis” on December 30 2022 as a part of the research capacity building of the institution. Prof. Andrea Nightingale, from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), facilitated the workshop, where she shared about the different processes of qualitative data analysis.
Before the workshop, the participants were divided into three groups according to their projects and were asked to discuss with the respective project team to select a transcript that they would like to use for the data analysis exercise during the workshop.
Prof. Nightingale stimulated an active workshop session by asking the participants to generate thematic categories using the transcripts. Thereafter, coding was done according to the themes identified by the participants. The groups then shared their respective codes developed from the transcripts followed by collective discussions.
Then Prof. Nightingale shared the importance of each of the processes in qualitative data analysis to better articulate their research findings.
SIAS researchers exercised a very insightful and engaging session on qualitative data analysis techniques during the workshop.
